when welcoming a guest in Thailand is, “Have you eaten yet?” Meals are a main
part of Thai culture for socializing. Mealtimes give families the time to spend
together and relax.
Traditionally, Thai people would sit on the floor in a straw mat
with the traditional meals, served on a tray in the middle. Today, people
usually sit around a table and eat their
meals.

Thai people prize the art of sanuk, or having fun. The national sport is Muay Thai (Thai boxing), also known as kickboxing, in which opponents fight with their feet as well as their hands. In another popular sport, called takraw, the players try to keep a ball made of rattan (woven palm stems) in the air by using their head, legs, and feet. Soccer is also popular sport.

Thai greeting is referred to as the ‘Wai’ which consists of palms pressed together in a prayer like fashion. The higher the hands are held closer to the face, the lower the bow. This gives the person more respect or reverence.
Entertainment, Leisure & Festivals

Thai really like to relax with family & friends. Thai rarely go in pairs; they prefer to go in larger groups. People who live in the city often go out to the movies then to a diner or a restaurant. People living in the country side often meet at a friend’s house, play cards or watch television.
Teenagers like to go out together in groups made up of 20 people. One popular activity is going on picnics. This means bringing lots of food and a guitar to sing along with friends.
Kite flying is a traditional sport that began hundreds of years ago. Kites are flown throughout the year, but the Competition season if from February-April. Thai kites are made of bamboo and paper. Thai also had a variety of other animal sports. This involves cockfighting, buffalo aces & bullfights. Even small animals such as beetles and fish which are trained to fight.
