People have lived in what is now Thailand for tens of thousands of years. The Mon and the Khmer peoples had settlements throughout Southeast Asia more than 2,000 years ago. Before A.D. 1000, many small states were scattered throughout the region but little is known about them other than their names. One, named Dvaravati was a Mon state based in the delta of the Chao Phraya River. Foreign traders brought Buddhism and Hinduism to the region from India. The ancestors of today's Thai migrated to the region from southern China over a period of many centuries, beginning between about the A.D. 400's and 700's,
Thailand is a Monarchy Government meaning that there are Kings and Queens that reign and it is all about royalty. Later in History, in about 1932, Thailand was under the influence of Constitutional Monarchy by Europeans. The Europeans were forcing the King to change Government. The King didn’t want a Constitutional Monarchy so he changed it to Monarchy Government. The
most influential ruler of Thailand was King Prajadhipok (Rama VII). He’s one of the most influential rulers of land.
Thailand's ancient history goes back to 600 BC. Here is a timeline and brief snapshot of ancient times and events;
600 BC - Chinese T'ai migration recorded
300 BC - Indian settlements bringing the Hindu religion
1000 AD - The Mons, from Burma, had established themselves in Central Thailand
1150 - Suriyavarman II built Angkor Wat in today's Cambodia
1497 - July 8: Vasco da Gama set out on expediition to India via Africa stopping at Mombasa, Mozambique, Malindi, Kenya, and Quilmana trading centres
1516 - Portuguese send an envoy to Thai Court and sign a treaty
1529 - War with Burma 1529 - 1569
1571 - The Spanish settle in Manila to trade and spread Christianity
1575 - 1575 - 1650 The Dutch, French, Danish, Arabs, Chinese and British established trade agreements
1782 - Beginning of the Chakri dynasty under King Rama I
1833 - 1833 First American envoy to the Thai Court
1833 - 1847 Thai-Vietnam war
1868 - 1868 til 1910: Reign of King Chulalongkorn.
1905 - 1905 Slavery was abolished
1909 - 1909 Great Britain establishes protectorates
1914 - 1914 - 1918 WWI - Thailand joins the Allies
1917 - Siam becomes ally of Great Britain in World War I.
1932 - 1932 Revolution and the obsolete monarchy is abolished
1939 - Siam changes its name to Thailand ("Land of the Free").
1939 - 1939 - 1945 WWII Thailand declares war on the Allies
